The Grand Hotel des Alpes is an exquisite, traditional style hotel located in the heart of Chamonix. It is one of the oldest hotels in the Chamonix area, built in 1940 and completely restored in 2004. This hotel has the feeling of a lovely, old-school country club or lodge. It is elegant, refined and comfortable, yet it has a down-to-earth atmosphere, and is very authentic. The service here is of exceptional quality. Between the traditional and sophisticated style, all the way through to the service, everything just works.
The Grand Hotel des Alpes is a fairly small hotel with only 30 rooms. All the rooms are beautifully appointed and have undergone a complete makeover in recent years. They now have fresh white wooden panelling and furnishings giving them an elegant look. Double rooms are on the small side (20 to 22 m2) with a mini bar, safe, wood paneling on the walls and marble bathrooms. Some Double rooms face the Brévent direction, while others have views of the Mont Blanc range and the river. Some of these rooms also feature balconies, or can fit an extra bed.
Scout absolutely loves the Old Tower suite on the 6th floor, which has medieval, chalet style, wood paneling on the ceiling. You would think you're in some magical, ancient chalet, in the middle of the French Alps. It has a Jacuzzi tub on the floor, and this wonderful skyline nook where you can lie back and watch the stars with Mont Blanc in the backdrop. What an absolutely, spellbinding treat for a romantic getaway! They also have an equally charming Honeymoon suite.
While there is no restaurant at The Grand Hotel des Alpes, they serve a very generous hot and cold breakfast for an additional supplement. The hotel also lays out a fantastic afternoon tea with lots of different cakes and treats. Then at 4pm they serve aperitifs in the lobby area. The lobby or lounge area has soft jazz music playing and is a wonderful place to kick back and relax. There's also a wellness area with steam room, sauna, an indoor pool and Jacuzzi, a relaxing terrace and massage room.
