SCOUT REVIEW

Akakura Hotel is located right in the heart of the Myoko Kogen ski resort area. Close to all the amenities of Akakura Kanko Village, you will have restaurants, bars and shops right at your fingertips and the slopes are less than a five-minute walk away. The hotel has great facilities too and is known for having some of the best onsens in the region. In fact the onsen is even said to have a beautifying effect due to its combination of Hydrogen carbonate and sulphate in the spring water. No wonder it’s called the Fountain of Beauty… sign me up!

It seems that same fountain hasn’t been as strictly applied to the décor in the rooms, including the dining room (though I guess it depends what your interpretation of beauty is). Some rooms look a bit like Grandma’s house in the 1980s. However the rooms are clean and certainly comfortable, as most have a little lounge area which is quite unusual for Japanese hotels.

Akakura Hotel features a range of different room options so couples, friends and families alike will all find a room that suits. For those looking for some Japanese culture, the traditional Japanese rooms are spacious. However, if you’d prefer a western bed then there are plenty of rooms which offer comfortable twin beds.  All rooms have two separate areas whether it’s two sleeping areas or a sleeping area and a lounge area. They’re some of the most spacious in the Myoko area and are great for families – or people that like a lot of room and extra living areas to relax in. All rooms have full en-suite bathrooms. Some rooms are located in the Annex building next door.

On the whole, we Akakura hotel is a great value choice in such a central location. Your stay will be unforgettable, not least due to the welcome you will receive from Pepper the robot who is perched in the arrival lobby!

WHO SHOULD STAY HERE

Akakura Hotel is great for families who want spacious rooms that can interconnect. You’ll have a comfortable stay and are just minutes from the slopes and resort amenities.

SCOUT CUSTOMER REVIEWS

Although a little dated, there was plenty of space for the family in room. We had the two western beds and the kids slept on the tatami mats in a separate area. The best feature was the fact that there was a massive drying cupboard in the room for all our gear each night, and the kids were obsessed with the four different onsens in the hotel.  Actually folks came from all over town to use the onsens there - Carolyn, Scout customer Jan 2017

Akakura Hotel is located in Akakura Onsen village, in central Myoko Kogen, about a three-minute walk to the Akakura Onsen ski lifts and steps to all the local bars, shops and restaurants.

About Myoko Kogen

Myoko Kogen combines so many excellent elements into one package; several great ski resorts, endless powder snow, relatively thin crowds, plenty of (permitted) tree skiing, a superb ski school, a friendly, traditional Japanese town, a range of accommodation options and easy access. It’s not surprising then that Myoko’s popularity has soared over the past few years.
