Himecho is a private house in Nozawa Onsen and is the perfect opportunity for those seeking a truly memorable and authentic Japanese style self-contained accommodation. Updated from an century-old machiya-style townhouse in the heart of the village, Himecho features a modern twist to this ancient ryokan and is unique in every way.
Himecho is rented out as a single house to groups and offers five spacious traditional tatami rooms (sleeping up to 12 guests) and typical of bedrooms one can find in old village homes nearby. The futon matresses are specially tailored for a softer and more comfortable rest, and cater specifically to non-Japanese guests experiencing their first Japanese ski trip (comfortable for even the tallest skier!). The guest rooms are warm and welcoming, featuring a comfortable seating area and stylish wooden floors. Scout loves that the recent renovations have maintained the authentic machiya-style interiors throughout, including shoji paper screens which just add to the homely atmosphere.
As Himecho channels an old Japanese guest house, there are no ensuite bathrooms, however, each room has their own separate bathroom with shower down the hall, and a share spacious ofuro bathroom. Some of the best onsens in Nozawa Onsen are located just around the corner including the iconic Oyu, Taki-no-yu, and the popular Asagame-no-yu, so it is easy for guests to don their yukata robes and experience each one. As a guest of Himecho, the private 'kashikiri' onsen at Residence Yasushi is also available.
