SCOUT REVIEW

A big bustling hotel which can be seen for miles due to its bright yellow façade, Hotel Appi Grand has an international flavor with its guests coming from different parts of the world. It is not a traditional Japanese style hotel so do not expect the usual traditional style rooms and facilities.

Hotel Appi Grand's rooms are a little smaller than the neighboring Tower rooms but are very comfortable with ample sized bathrooms and showers. The Japanese Twin and Maisonette rooms have recently been renovated in a tasteful Japanese style. The remaining room types are allocated according to the number of people in the room. The three room types sleep 1-2, 3-4 and 5 people rspectively. The first type of room is a standard twin with twin beds and a sofa; the family room with thee twin beds and a sofa bed; and the biggest is the mezzanette which has a loft style bedroom with triple beds and downstairs is a living area with two sofa beds. Some of the rooms have picturesque ski slope views.

Hotel Appi Grand has numerous dining options. It has five restaurants to choose from namely the Bireka Chinese restaurant, the Nanashigure Japanese restaurant, the Arlberg restaurant which serves a variety of Western and Asian dishes, the Richoen Korean BBQ restaurant which is highly recommended, and the French restaurant LaPind’or. If you plan on dining at the hotel most nights, it is better value to book that as part of a package rather than purchasing it there. The hotel does have a regular shuttle to the rural town of Hachimantai and Morioka City where you can enjoy other dining options. If you want a drink or two, the hotel has two bars including a Karaoke room which you can rent. But like many ski resort hotels in Japan don’t expect the bar to be busy.

Hotel Appi Grand has excellent facilities which you can enjoy after a day of skiing. You can enjoy a bath in the hot spring, or swim some laps in the indoor swimming pool but it can be stifling hot. It also has a gym with basic gym equipment where you can sweat it out and some other sports facilities.  The hotel has a gift shop/mini-supermarket, ski rentals, a beauty salon, game corner, child care facilities and a massage room. There is a private onsen available in Hotel Appi Grand, while the main onsen facilities are in the Appi Hills hotel.

Hotel Appi Grand is a fantastic choice not only because if its location but also because of its facilities and amenities which are of international standards.
