Hotel Schonegg is a quaint little hotel that has been one of the best in Wengen for decades! Built in 1903 and recently renovated, the hotel is done in a special Swiss traditional style. The original owner, Rene Berthold is a past Lauberhorn Downhill winner and the history is evident throughout the hotel.
Hotel Schonegg feels well above its 3 star status. This family-run hotel is charming, welcoming and friendly on all counts and you can tell that the staff will do all they can to ensure you have a fantastic ski vacation. This is highlighted by the fact that many guests return here year after year.
The restaurant serves up delicious meals, though as with many Swiss hotels it is expensive so the half board option can be good value. There is also a traditional Stubli style restaurant, cosy with its fireplace. We love the lounge and the separate library room as a great place to hang out and relax after a hard day of skiing.
The hotel has a distinctly traditional alpine feel, with wooden decor throughout and lovely landscape paintings dotted around the hotel. Most of the rooms have a simple, classic design but the Junior Suites have a more modern touch with a sleek open-plan bathroom attached to the bedroom.
One of the best things about Hotel Schonegg is its incredible views of the Jungfrau which can be seen from the terrace and restaurant as well as from many of the bedrooms. This gets you excited about staying up in the mountains so you are raring to go when you head off for a day on the slopes.
Hotel Schonegg is located just a couple of minutes from the train station and a few minutes to the Mannlichen cable car. A shuttle service from the station is included.
Hotel Schonegg also boasts a small spa area which comprises of two jacuzzis, a Finnish sauna, steam room, sensory shower, a Kneipp walk basin and a peaceful relaxation area.
