Hotel Schweizerhof is a large yet welcoming hotel that was recently renovated (winter 2018) to bring modern aspects and additional amenities throughout. Officially a 4 star hotel, Schweizerhof acts more like a 5 star hotel with its style and amenities.
The hotel is ideally located in Zermatt's main street directly opposite the main train station and a block from the Gornergrat Bahn station that takes you up to the slopes. It is perfect for those that want to be in the thick of the action. The very relaxed but very cool lounge area with its dark blue, aqua and green velvet furnishings feels like a place where James Bond would have been very happy. It can be quite a happening scene in the afternoons with live DJs.
The 95 rooms at Hotel Schweizerhof are bright and comfortable with modern Alpine detailing and they range from small 'cozy' rooms to more expansive suites which include lounge areas where you can relax and unwind after a day out on the mountain. The "cosy" rooms rare very small and better suited to one person - two would be very tight. Not all rooms have Matterhorn views but these can certainly be requested. Some rooms have balconies. Hotel rooms have benefited from the more recent renovation with high-tech fixtures such as bluetooth speakers, ipads to control the lighting, dyson hairdryers and fun, decorative nic-nacs. After a hard day on the slopes the huge rainshowers in the bathroom will be welcomed.
Guests are treated to a large buffet breakfast each day which will fill them up ready for a day on the slopes. When they return they can enjoy apres ski drinks and snacks in the lobby lounge or head over to the impressive on-site spa for some extra relaxation. The spa boasts a heated swimming pool, two saunas, a steam bath, two whirlpools, a relaxation room, three massage treatment rooms and a fitness centre with garden views.
Hotel Schweizerhof also features a range of dining options including Le Schweizerhof Kitchen, La Muña and the Cheese Factory. Guests therefore have different restaurants to tickle their tastebuds each night.
